a Licensed Contractor in Miami-Dade County?"
You must have
hands on work experience in the trade you are applying for. You must apply through
the Miami Dade County Contractor Licensing Division Office. Once the appropriate
forms and documentation have been submitted your application and all necessary
supporting documents will be reviewed by the Construction Trades Qualifying Board
which meets at the end of every month to approve/disapprove applicants applying
to obtain their contractors license. If approved you will be required to submit
Liability Insurance and Proof of Workers Compensation Coverage before a Contractors
Certificate of Competency Card will be issued. For more information regarding

"Am I Required To Provide My Own Credit
Reports with my Business Application?"
No, Unlike Applications
Submitted to The Florida State DBPR Miami-Dade County Building Code Compliance
Office provides credit reports through a Preferred County Vendor to be submitted
to the Construction Trades Qualifying Board along with your business application.
There is no additional fee for this service.
"How
Long will it take for my application to be reviewed?"
Application
review times vary. Many factors affect how long your license application process
may take. Depending on the date your application is submitted, Board meeting date,
and whether you are applying for a category that requires an exam are all factors
that affect the length of time of your application review is in process In most
cases non- exam categories receive a response within 30-45 working days.

I Required To Obtain Workers' Compensation Insurance?"
Yes,
All Miami-Dade County Licensed contractors are required to carry Workers Compensation
Insurance Or file for an exemption with Florida Department of Financial Services
Division of Workers' Compensation. An Original Miami-Dade County Contractor Certificate
of Competency Card will not be issued without proof of Workers Compensation Exemption
or Insurance.

I Required To Obtain Liability Insurance?"
Yes, All Miami-Dade
County Building Code Compliance/Public Works Construction License Applicants are
required to obtain Commercial Liability Insurance. A copy of The Certificate of
Liability Insurance will be required as proof of insurance to be submitted to
The Miami-Dade County Building Code Compliance Office once the application has
been approved by the Construction Trades Qualifying Board. An Original Miami-Dade
County Contractor Certificate Of Competency Card will not be issued without proof
of Commercial Liability Insurance.

"Will
I be required to register my license locally?"
Yes, depending
on your particular location. Certain Cities and Municipalities located throughout
Miami-Dade County will require all Licensed Contractors conducting business or
working in Miami-Dade County to obtain a local business tax receipt or (occupational
license). Also you may be required to register your license within the
city you are doing business and/or obtain a city license or (municipal
license) in order to pull construction permits. Certificate of use/occupancy,
DERM Permit, Home Office Permit, City Business License may also be required. If
you are unsure what type of registration will be required for your business; Florida

Requirements for Miami-Dade County Licensed Contractors
Continuing Education Requirements as stated by The Miami-Dade County Building
Code
For local contractors and tradesmen, Chapter 10 of the
Code of Miami Dade County requires that sixteen (16) hours of continuing education,
approved by the Construction Trades Qualifying Board, be obtained as a condition
of license renewal. The approved courses must be presented by Board approved Course
Sponsors. Chapter 10 Sec 10.-13.1. states "Each Person who is certifies by
the Board as a maintenance, journeyman, a master who is not also a qualifying
agent, holders of a certificate of eligibility, or a qualifying agent not registered
under F.S. 489, Part I or II in active status, must, as a condition of each renewal
of the certificate after January 1, 1996, maintain proof of completion of continuing
education hours in (1) or more courses approved by the Board in accordance with
the rules adopted by the Board." Continuing education is an obligation which
pertains to professional contractors and tradesmen whether licensed by the State
of Florida or Miami-Dade County. Continuing education is commonly viewed by local
licensed construction professionals as one avenue for them to ensure that they
can remain competitive by keeping up to date regarding issues that impact the
dynamic and challenging construction industry.

MONROE COUNTY CONSIDERS A 70% OR HIGHER AS PASSING
All
Specialty applicant's interested in conducting business in Monroe County must
take the
Business
and Law examination, and when required the Trade examination in the applicant's
respective field, with the exception of journeyman electrical, journeyman mechanical,
and journeyman plumbing.
Applicants
holding a Masters (electrical,
mechanical, or plumbing)license only need to take the Business and Law
examination if they want to be a contractor. If Business and Law examination is
not taken, the applicant is prohibitedfrom
holding himself/herself as a contractor.

with one (1) asterisk at the end of each trade require registration with
Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) 850-487-1395 -
www.myfloridalicense.com prior to qualifier conducting business in Monroe County.
